Drivers who use Windsor Spring Road can expect to see continued road work in their near future. A road expansion project has begun in the area between Tobacco Road and Willis Foreman Road in Hephzibah, Georgia. For residents at Manchester at Diamond Lakes and Southampton this is welcome news. The existing two lane road will be widened to four travel lanes, adding capacity, unblocking heavy congestion and making the commute safer for thousands of drivers every day.
“This one has been a long time coming,” said STB Chair Don Grantham, “we could not be more pleased to see this project happening. We are excited to see our transportation tax dollars used to get started with the widening.”
Included in the project is a new four lane bridge over Spirit Creek, a 19 foot wide raised median to separate traffic moving in opposite directions, left and right turn lanes, 16-foot shoulders, and 8-feet wide trails on both sides of the road. The complete project is expected to cost around 43 million dollars and be completed by April 2017. Funding will come from a transportation project that was approved by voters.
The 2 1/2 year endeavor will improve safety, efficiency and traffic flow in the area, benefiting the public by potentially reducing the incidence of car crashes along the roadway.
For drivers, residents and business owners in the area this city project is one that has been long anticipated. Residents here have often complained of congested traffic flow along this roadway and the necessity to take alternate routes to avoid the traffic.
Drivers who frequent Windsor Spring Road should prepare for moderate to heavy road work in the coming months. Additional construction details and lane closure schedules will be forthcoming. The city of Hephzibah asks residents to excuse the inconvenience and drive cautiously, especially in work zones.
