To celebrate the New Year, we want to take this time to look back on the highlights from 2014. Some of these projects have been finished while some are still in the making, giving residents of the Augusta Metro area plenty to look forward to in 2015.
New Walmart in Augusta
Construction began on a new Walmart Neighborhood Market. The smaller residential grocery store will provide residents with a more intimate shopping experience and offer products such as groceries and pharmaceuticals. Fletcher Bright Company announced that the new Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market will be located in Richmond County at the corner of Windsor Spring Road and Tobacco Road. Included in the development is an additional shopping center with 14,800 square feet of retail shops.
Windsor Spring Road Expansion
Drivers who use Windsor Spring Road can expect to see continued road work into 2015. A road expansion project has begun in the area between Tobacco Road and Willis Foreman Road in Hephzibah, Georgia. The existing two lane road will be widened to four travel lanes, adding capacity, unblocking heavy congestion and making the commute safer for thousands of drivers every day.
Grovetown Ranked Fifth Safest City
Movoto Real Estate ranked 73 Georgia cities with a population over 10,000 and announced the top 10 safest. Grovetown made the cut, coming in fifth safest city in Georgia. Movoto created this ranking by compiling a list of the most populated cities in the state. Data was then collected from the 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report and crime rates per 100,000 people were then compared. With a population of a little over 11,000, Grovetown has a crime rating of 1:44. It had the fourth lowest violent crime among their rankings.
Aiken was Named Top Retirement Destination
Where to Retire magazine has selected Aiken, South Carolina as a top retirement destination. The city was profiled in the November/December issue. Aiken, South Carolina has all the qualities retirees look for in a retirement destination including mild weather and a horse-lovers atmosphere. In addition, Augusta National, host to the Master’s, is only 20 miles away where retirees can enjoy a 6 am tee time any day of the week. A new performing arts program is located in Aiken as well, and hosts a variety of shows throughout the day.
New Neighborhood Kelarie
A new home community, Kelarie, will soon be built off Baker Place Road. This new home community, which is set to open in summer 2015, will give those interested in moving to Grovetown further opportunity to secure the home of their dreams. A total of 559 homes will be built varying from townhouse units, patio homes, move up homes, and estate homes. The first phase of construction will include numerous homes, ranging in size to meet a variety of different lifestyles.
