Home Classroom Inspiration
No matter where you decide to set up your learning space, you want the room to be free of distractions. Take away the home decor and replace it with pictures and objects related to school. Here are some ideas.
Display artwork: Designate a section of the wall for a child’s art gallery. Pinterest is full of great ideas for how to display work in creative ways. We love the idea of using clothespins hot glued to a ruler.
Chalk paint: Paint a section of wall with chalk paint to use during instruction; or better yet, paint your work table with chalk paint and use it in place of scrap paper.
Paint: Brighten up your home classroom with colorful walls and inspiring words. The more vibrant and welcoming the classroom, the more students will wish to spend time in it.
Good storage and organization is important in a homeschool classroom. Again, we love the millions of creative ideas available on Pinterest. Here are a few of our favorites. Many of the materials can already be found in your own home.
Spice racks and cereal boxes: Use a spice rack to organize small classroom supplies such as paper clips, brads, staples and glitter. Cereal boxes can also be used to organize drawer space. Cut off the top portion of the box and wrap in colorful wrapping paper that matches the decor in the room. Read the how to guide here.
Shoe organizer: Use an over the door shoe organizer to organize your large school supplies such as pencils, markers, erasers, glue, scissors, paints and notepads. If your home schoolers are small, remember to keep the messy supplies out of their reach.
File cabinets or lockers: For paperwork, upcycle old file cabinets by painting them with chalk paint or decorative paper. Lockers work great as well if you have them available. Remove the doors of a few of the lockers for bookshelf space and organize the textbooks by topic.
