5 Unique Holiday Traditions in the CSRA

The holiday season is among us and there are a variety of fun events taking place in our area. We have come up with a list of 5 favorites to make sure you can attend! These are such fun times for family and friends all around so we hope you will be able to share in the joy that these holiday events bring.

1. Columbia County Christmas Parade
The 54th annual Columbia County Christmas Parade happens this Sunday, December 2nd at 2:00 pm. Attendance is free and there are over 100 floats being featured this year, including one from our very own Bill Beazley Homes/Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Beazley Realtors (M J Real Estate Professionals)! The route will start at North Belair Road by the Evans 14 Movie Theater and will end at Rhinehart’s Oyster Bar. Be sure to come a little early to find a good spot and enjoy the parade!

2. Hayride through the Life of Christ
The Columbia County Fairgrounds and Sharon Baptist Church are presenting this year’s Hayride through the Life of Christ. It will run from Thursday, December 6th to Sunday, December 9th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm each night. It is a free hayride event that tells the Christmas story and includes hot chocolate, live music and activities for children.

3. Singing Christmas Tree
Abilene Baptist Church in Martinez hosts a Singing Christmas Tree spectacular every year. This year celebrates the 40th annual event! The church choir fills a 35 foot Christmas tree and a live orchestra accompanies them in telling the Christmas Story. Performance dates are December 7th, 8th and 9th at various times.

4. Lights of the South
This is a daily recurring event that runs through January 7th of next year. Nestled away in Grovetown, Lights of the South is one of the area’s most popular Christmas attractions. They offer hayrides as well as a walking trail through the multitudes of beautiful light displays. There are also amazing hot chocolate and snack stations, children’s play areas, fire pits for roasting marshmallows and photos with Santa Claus. Gates open at 6:00 pm each night and ticket prices vary from $12-20, with free admission for children under 3.

5. Christmas in Hopelands
Hopelands Gardens in Aiken, South Carolina is a beautiful venue year-round but is especially unique at Christmas time. The 27th annual event will take place December 15th-23rd and December 26th. There will be over two miles of lighted pathways with holiday displays and hot cocoa or apple cider to sip on. Admission is free to this one-of-a-kind southern Christmas event so be sure to check it out!
