Each year, home design experts gather to create predictions for trends that will lead the way in interior decorating. This year, there is a large focus on bold and artistic. We have compiled some of the predictions from industry experts on what is in for 2019.

Focal Backsplash

Backsplash that stretches from the counter to the ceiling is a big kitchen trend to look out for. A bright, crisp tile selection that is laid on a large surface area creates a dramatic, clean and cohesive look.

Dark and Moody Colors

Even though “Living Coral” was named Pantone’s 2019 color of the year, many experts are leaning towards more dark colors to decorate the home and leaving brighter hues for accents. Gone are the days of navy or dark green walls being avoided; this year, they are in full force. Surprisingly, the colors can create a warm and serene setting and are a pleasant shift from the white/neutral shades that have dominated in design for many years.

Black Kitchens

The white kitchen trend is out, especially from a logistical standpoint. They can seem impossible to keep clean with children and pets constantly running around. This year, experts are seeing black paint in kitchen cabinets and islands. It looks extra sophisticated when paired with gold or brass fixtures and marble countertops.

Room Dividers

Open concept floor plans continue to increase in popularity and with that, so do statement room dividers. They add visual interest to a room without making it feel cramped and can be easily moved to fit the homeowner’s needs.

Textured Wallpaper

Wallpaper is rising from its 80s-90s grave and making a comeback this year. It elevates any room and minimizes the need for extra decor. This can be a scary choice to make when designing a room, so try it in a smaller space first before committing. A guest bathroom or office would be the perfect place to experiment.
