Living Room Checklist
May 28, 2019
The living room is one of the most important spots in any home. It is a place where friends and family gather, memories are made and relaxation takes place. If you have recently moved into a new home, are planning to move, or just need a refresh for your current space, we have compiled a list of some essentials to have in your living room.
Blinds and Drapes/Curtains
This can be an easily forgotten item when dealing with all of the hustle and bustle that comes with moving. If you haven’t shopped for window treatments before moving, be sure to measure windows as soon as you get in to your new home and find what you need immediately. Privacy is important and you don’t want everyone being able to peek into your windows to see that you still have moving boxes everywhere!
After assessing your space, it may be time to shop for a new staple furniture piece. If you have a large family or plan to have guests over frequently, it may be worth it to invest in a good sectional so there is plenty of room for everyone to sit. If it can’t be configured properly into your living room, consider a sofa and loveseat- maybe with an accent chair thrown in.
Area rugs make any room appear bigger. A large rug for all of your furniture to sit on will give the room a great pop of color as well as the illusion of more space. Pick a timeless color and design that will withstand trends.
Lamps are necessary for additional lighting and a classic, decorative touch. Look for one or two to go on end tables and if you have a more open space, a floor lamp will add length to the room.
Once all of your furniture is in and window treatments are placed, you can decide what should be hung on the walls and placed on shelves. Look for a few pieces that tie the colors of the room together and stay away from too much wordy decor. Think timeless art pieces and maybe one or two items with an initial or inspirational quote.
