 With mother’s day approaching, Sunday, May 8, we all get pretty caught up in what we are doing. Still, it is always important to remember and honor your mothers on mother’s day. This tradition has been linked back to early Greek festivals, and in the late 1800s and early 1900s was starting to become a trend to celebrate. Influence came from Ann Jarvis, the woman who lobbied to have Mother’s day added as a National Holiday in 1914 when Woodrow Wilson signed official measures to have the day added (History.com). The fun fact about this is that Ann Jarvis was the daughter of Ann Reeves Jarvis. She also worked to have the Holiday recognized and celebrated during the mid-1800s. Ann Jarvis worked her life to get this day recognized as an honor and thanks to her mother. Now, I know I always question what I will get my mother for Mother’s Day; but some ideas that I have seen are;

  1. Cook Mom Dinner/Breakfast: The majority of us all know Mom is the best cook, so although we can’t do as great, taking the burden of dinner off them might be something she will appreciate.
  2. Ask Mom What She Wants (To Do): Sometimes we think we know what mom will use, but I know for sure that if I got her the wrong Beauty Product, it would never get used; and Mom usually just wants to spend time with you. So ask her if there is something she wants to do instead of planning something specific she may not enjoy.
  3. Send Mom to Relax: Everyone has an activity that they love to do to relax, even Mom. Ask her where she likes to go to get her nails done, or if she likes the spa, treat her to a spa day. If she wants to go shopping, maybe offer to go shopping with her.

These are just some ideas, and if you’re looking to do something relatively inexpensive, you always have the option of writing her a letter of how much you appreciate her or creating some art if you are creative. Either way, it’s important to remember to love Mom, no matter how busy we get, because a 10 Minute phone call can be a conversation she will remember.
