Now that summer is in full swing, everyone is looking for life to return as close to normal as possible. The idea of being quarantined at home while there is so much beautiful weather just doesn’t seem like a fun idea. However, there are plenty of options for day trips to take while still maintaining a safe social distance from others. Here are a few:

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, Columbia, SC

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden is just over an hour away from the Augusta area. While trying to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, they are opening by reservation only. All you need to do is go to their website and select a time slot to purchase tickets. This will ensure that there aren’t huge crowds and everyone has a fair chance to safely see the animals and exhibits.

State Parks

Enjoy a hike or a relaxing afternoon on the lake by visiting any local state park. Here is a list for Georgia state park locations: https://gastateparks.org/Map and one for South Carolina state parks: https://southcarolinaparks.com/

Mural Trip

Between downtown Augusta and North Augusta, there are so many beautiful and creative murals to see by local artists. They make great picture backdrops and it’s fun to drive around and see the talent showcased in our area. Check this list out by a local Augusta blogger for all of the hot spots to see.

Drive-In Theater

If there is a drive-in theater nearby, see if they are hosting any movie showings. This is a fun way to create memories with friends and family while staying safe in the comfort of your own car. It also transports you back in time with the retro drive-in environment!

Berry Picking

Picking your own produce is a fun way to spend time outside while shopping local and eating healthier. There is a sense of accomplishment that comes with filling a bucket full of fresh berries or vegetables. Here is a list of local farms that allow public picking.

Finding things to do in the backyard can be fun, but it’s such a relief to get out of the house once in a while. Gather everyone up in the car and safely explore some new places!
