Spending Your First Night in Your New Home

Moving into a new home can be stressful and overwhelming. Whether it’s your first move or you’re a seasoned pro, preparing for the move can be a tedious and daunting task if there is no system in place to simplify the process. To prevent last minute scrambling as soon as you unload the truck, keep these tips in mind to make your first night easier.

Pack Necessary Items Separately

Think of moving almost like a vacation. You’ll need a carry-on sized bag (or small box) full of the essentials to get you through the first few days. Set aside a pair of pajamas, one or two extra outfits, toiletries and towels so you have easy access to everything you need right away. The last thing you’ll want to do after moving is dig through multiple boxes just to find a toothbrush, so keeping these items in one place will be a huge relief.

Order Dinner

You probably won’t be focused on grocery shopping and cooking on your first night in a new home. Budget a little extra to order delivery from your favorite local restaurant so that your dinner is taken care of and you can easily take a break from unpacking for your inaugural meal in your new home.

Dispose of Trash in a Timely Manner

You don’t want to let boxes pile up for weeks or months after the move. Too much trash laying around will create obstacles and unnecessary stress. Think of this new home as a fresh start and take advantage of it to keep your space clean from day one. Keep cleaning supplies handy to avoid trash piles and break down boxes right away to be set outside for garbage and recycling pickup.

Take Time to Celebrate

Don’t let moving be all about the to-do list that needs to be done. Every bit of unpacking doesn’t have to be done in the first day and you deserve time to soak in the fresh space. Splurge on your favorite delivery dinner or pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate the accomplishment of buying a home.

With a simple process and a little fun, your first night in your new home is bound to be a breeze.
