The beautiful spring weather is finally here! Sunny days are ahead and it is the perfect time for families to be outside and explore. Thankfully, there are plenty of things to do in the CSRA during this beautiful time of year. However, there are also a few great destinations that would make an easy day trip if you’re looking for a new adventure! Here are a few ideas:

Riverbanks Zoo & Garden, Columbia, SC

The Riverbanks Zoo is just a little over an hour away from the Augusta area and is a great place to go during these beautiful weather days. It is home to over 2,000 fascinating animals and has one of the country’s most beautiful botanical gardens. The zoo and garden spans 170 acres, so you’ll definitely get a great walk during your trip. There are demonstrations at different times of day at certain animal exhibits as well as rides and attractions for younger kids. The garden has multiple splash pad areas for warmer days for kids to enjoy as well!

Atlanta, GA

Georgia’s state capital city is flourishing and bustling with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy. It may be best to make an overnight or weekend trip to be able to enjoy more than one destination! The drive is just over 2 hours (sometimes more depending on traffic). Atlanta boasts popular spots such as The World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, High Museum of Art and Legoland Discovery Center, just to name a few. Stone Mountain Park is also in the Atlanta area and is a wonderful adventure for people of all ages to enjoy. For the adrenaline junkie, Six Flags Over Georgia is a great amusement park in the area.

Greenville, SC

Historic Greenville is just over 2 hours away from Augusta. The beautiful South Carolina town is known for its southern hospitality and abundance of events, especially during the spring and summer seasons. Downtown Greenville is home to Falls Park, a must-see destination during anyone’s trip. There is also a City Plaza Splash Pad downtown for children to run around and enjoy during warmer weather. Any food enthusiast would enjoy a trip to Greenville as well, as there are great restaurants on every corner.

Savannah/Tybee Island, GA

The Savannah area is another spot that may be better for an overnight or weekend trip, but it’s just as easy to make a fun day trip there. It is about 2.5 hours away from Augusta and is a city rich in history and events. Downtown Savannah has the perfect mix of historic charm and innovative, modern design. Park your car and plan to take a nice walk through the pedestrian-friendly city, visiting art museums and small shops. Just 20 minutes outside of Savannah is Tybee Island, a beautiful and relaxing beach complete with wonderful restaurants to enjoy a nice dinner after a long day in the sun.
