The hot summer weather arrived a bit earlier than normal this year. While there are plenty of places in the CSRA to go swim, you may just need a refreshing getaway. Thankfully, there are plenty of beaches that are a short drive from the area to make for a great day trip. Check out some of our favorites:

Tybee Island

Tybee Island is located just outside of Savannah, Georgia. At just under 3 hours of drive time, you can easily grab breakfast for the road and make it to the ocean before lunch time. The island boasts plenty of delicious seafood spots and ice cream shops. Don’t forget to walk along the pier and take some beautiful pictures!

Driftwood Beach

About 3.5 hours away from Augusta is Driftwood Beach, part of Jekyll Island. The beach is named for its abundance of trees and driftwood scattered along the shore. It is a quiet area with beautiful scenery to enjoy. If you are up for an overnight stay, the island has campsites available.

St. Simons Island

St. Simons is also a 3.5 hour drive from the Augusta area. It is just off of the coast of Brunswick and has great sand for bike rides along the ocean. The island has a small population, making it a peaceful and relaxing spot for anyone to enjoy.

Hilton Head Island

Hilton Head is located in South Carolina, just over the bridge from Savannah, Georgia. Not only is the beach a popular family spot, but after your day enjoying the ocean, set aside a few hours for outlet shopping before exiting the island. It’s just over a 2.5 hour drive from the Augusta area which leaves plenty of time to spend a day in this beautiful spot!

Isle of Palms

One of the most beautiful beaches in the south is Isle of Palms, just outside of Charleston, South Carolina. A 3 hour drive will get you to this tranquil island full of sunshine and shopping. Be sure to stop at one of their southern seafood restaurants for dinner on the way home.
