We have had record-breaking high temperatures in the CSRA this month. Summer has definitely arrived early, so it’s time to find creative ways to cool down! A great treat for anyone to enjoy, especially kids, is a popsicle. Homemade popsicles provide a sense of accomplishment while enjoying your refreshing treat. We have a few recipes for you to try out – if you don’t have popsicle molds already, run to your local grocery store and grab some now! You’ll need them for all of these. Make sure you have a blender as well to liquefy some of the solid ingredients.


Pineapple Orange Pops

A 20 oz. can of pineapple chunks and 12 oz. of orange juice will yield 12 popsicles. Blend the canned pineapple chunks (do not drain) and pour into your molds, then freeze for 30-45 minutes. After that time is up, place popsicle sticks into the semi-frozen liquid and freeze for another 1-2 hours. Fill the cup again with your orange juice and freeze another 1-2 hours or until completely frozen.


Fruit Salad Popsicles

As The Wiggles say, “fruit salad, yummy yummy”! If you’re not a huge fan of fruit, try it frozen! These fun and colorful popsicles are a healthy alternative to the typical treats you find in the freezer aisle. This recipe requires multiple runs on the blender, so be patient and let the kids have fun experimenting with it. Take a ½ cup of your choice of fruit and ½ cup milk, juice or yogurt, and blend until smooth. It’s completely up to you how many layers go into these pops, so don’t be afraid to get creative! You could even throw in some spinach for a green layer and tasty hidden veggies. Once you have layered your different mixtures, place the popsicle sticks in and freeze for 3-4 hours or overnight to enjoy as a special breakfast treat on a hot morning.


Patriotic Yogurt Pops

There’s still some time before all of the July 4th parties and gatherings happen, but store this recipe to give everyone a yummy and colorful treat! For your red layer, blend ½ cup of strawberries or cherries and ½ cup vanilla Greek yogurt and pour into the mold. Next is the white layer consisting of ½ cup peeled and sliced banana and ½ cup yogurt. To top it off with blue, you’ll need ½ cup of blueberries and ½ cup yogurt. Freeze for 5-6 hours and enjoy!
