Have you moved into a new home recently? One of the most exciting ways to celebrate with your closest family and friends is to host a housewarming party. As soon as you announced you’d be moving, you probably heard everyone asking when they’d be able to see your new digs. Once you’ve been able to unpack and settle in, it’s time to plan the gathering to show off your new pride and joy!

As far as the “when” goes, it’s completely up to you. Make sure that throwing this party isn’t going to be stressful but can be a fun event for everyone to see your beautiful new home. It’s usually best to wait a couple of weeks after all of the boxes have been unpacked and you truly feel at home.

Thanks to social media, invitations can be way more casual than in previous years. It’s extremely easy to create a Facebook event or email invites. You can even start a group text message with a few friends for a low-key gathering. However you choose to invite people, be sure to do it 1-2 weeks in advance.

Consider inviting some of your new neighbors as well! Chances are you’ve crossed paths on a walk or while checking the mail. What better way to break the ice than to have them over for food and conversation?

Decorations aren’t totally necessary for a housewarming party. Your guests will be more interested in seeing the actual home, so don’t feel obligated to clutter it with balloons and streamers. A nice table setup and inviting living room will do the trick.

Be creative with food. If you are busy working and don’t have time to cook, invite your guests to bring potluck-style dishes so everyone has a variety of foods to sample from. If you are excited about the backyard and the weather is nice, have a cookout!

Never ask your guests to bring a gift to your housewarming. If someone brings a gift, graciously accept it and write a thank-you note, but do not ever expect a gift.

Your housewarming doesn’t need to be extravagant. Your friends and family just want to see the place and celebrate with you! Let this be a fun and casual gathering for memories to be made.
