Valentine’s Day isn’t just for romantic couples. You can use the occasion to celebrate anyone you love and children can make Valentine’s Day especially fun. If you are stumped on ideas to make the day special for the little one(s) in your life, here are a few ideas:

Bake special treats together.

If there is a mini chef prodigy in your home, use Valentine’s Day to get in the kitchen with them and allow them to do something they love. Grab a heart-shaped cookie cutter for Valentine’s cookies topped with red and pink sprinkles. Make pink pancakes for breakfast and top with heart-shaped sprinkles. You can add a little bit of love to every treat and meal while celebrating!

Put care packages together for others.

Teach your littles to show love to others by helping them bring joy to the community. Create handwritten Valentine’s cards and attach them to a small treat bag to deliver to nursing home residents or take baskets of Valentine’s sanitizer, lotion, chapstick, etc. to the hospital to show nurses your appreciation for the care they give to others.

Create a special Valentine’s countdown.

To show the kid(s) in your life how much you love them, create a countdown on the door to their bedroom. Use pink, red, or white paper and write down one thing you love about them each day, then tape it to their door. By the time Valentine’s Day arrives, they will have a door full of 14 reasons they are loved!

Read a few Valentine’s stories.

Head to the library and check out some books about love and friendship. Build a fort at home to read in or take the books to the park for storytime and a picnic!

Decorate the house with handmade crafts.

Grab a Valentine’s craft kit from your local craft supply store or find items around the home that can be used to create your own decor. Allow the littles to practice their fine motor skills by cutting heart shapes from construction paper and taping them wherever they please.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be complicated or tedious. Simply spending time with the child(ren) in your life would mean the world to them.
