Cinco de Mayo in the CSRA

May 3, 2019

Tan Banner

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday celebrating Mexico’s victory over France in the 1862 Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. The holiday is fairly minor in Mexico, as it is not recognized as a federal holiday and businesses stay open. However, the U.S. and other countries take part in celebrating Mexico’s victory and the country’s heritage. The occasion is marked by festivals, parades, mariachi music and most importantly, Mexican food. Plenty of establishments in Augusta enjoy taking part in Cinco de Mayo. We’ve highlighted a few here that you can check out this weekend.

Cinco Saturday at Evans Towne Center Park

Saturday, May 4, Evans Towne Center Park will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased for $5 in advance at Security Federal Bank locations in Columbia County or at the gate for $10 the day of the event. There will be piñatas, food, margaritas and music, with a mariachi remix from 6:00-9:00.

Cinco de Mayo at Augusta Municipal Golf Course

This is the perfect mix of food and drink celebrations plus Augusta heritage. The Augusta Municipal Golf Course on Highland Avenue is offering a golf and food/drink special for $25 during their business hours on Sunday.
